Donations
What are donations for?
Residents of the Black Country can donate items that we use to help people in need. Many of these items will be used to make up our Home Starter Packages which are offered to people who need them the most. Other items are sold in our charity shop which helps us to fund our charity. All donations that we receive will be used either in our home starter packages or in our shop and they are very important to us.
What can we accept as donations?
We accept a wide variety of household items. A major part of this is furniture. The furniture that we accept includes beds, such as single beds, double beds, children’s beds and cots. We also accept mattresses except for cot mattresses as this is against the law. Chairs and sofas are accepted, up to 3 seaters. Larger sofas are not usually accepted, unless they are suitable to sell in the shop, as they are difficult to transport. One of the requirements for mattresses and sofas is that they need to have a fire safety label applied to them when donated. They must also be in good condition and not have any rips, tears, stains or marks on them. Tables, cabinets, chests of drawers and wardrobes are also welcome. Usually, we only accept single wardrobes as larger wardrobes are again difficult to transport. Wall units are not accepted due to the size and they tend to damaged in transport.
Some small electrical items are accepted. This includes kettles, toasters, irons (and ironing boards), and microwave ovens. However, we do not accept white goods, such as cookers, washing machines and fridges. This is because we do not have the facilities to test these items.
Other items that are accepted are clothing, bed clothing, towels, curtains and dinner sets. Dinner sets consist of plates, dishes, mugs, cutlery, glasses and utensils. Like sofas and mattresses, clothing items, towels and curtains will only be accepted if they are void of any rips, tears, stains or marks.
Where and when do we collect?
Item donations are mostly accepted from homeowners and are only accepted from the Black Country. This includes Sandwell, Dudley, Walsall and Wolverhampton. We are currently looking into expanding our range into Birmingham. We collect items from 9:00AM to 3:30PM on Monday to Friday (not weekends).
Are there other benefits to donating?
By donating items, you are preventing them from being sent to landfills. This helps to reduce the production of greenhouse gases and reduces the UK’s carbon footprint. All donations we receive are reused, reduced or recycled.
